Htt110 recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, three cinque-
foils ermine within a bordure potent-counter-potent of the
second and first. [Plate V., fig. 5.] CREST : A hand
grasping a lance in bend sinister proper. MOTTO : "Et
arma et virtus!'
In Lyon Office, 1774, by Archibald Hamilton, heir-male of
Westburn. — Gules, a castle argent, masoned sable, between
three cinquefoils ermine, within a bordure potent-counter-
potent of the first atid second. [Plate V., fig. 6.] CREST
and Motto as above.
In Lyon Office, 1787, to Gilbert Hamilton, Glasgow, said to
be descended from Westburn. — Gules, a holly leaf or
between three cinquefoils ermine, within a bordure potent-
counter-potent of the first and third. [Plate V., fig. 7.]
Crest : A hand holding a lance in bend proper, the hand
charged with a star gules. MOTTO as above.
(363) James Hamilton of Torrance, living 1624. Married Catherine, daughter
of David Hamilton of Broomhill, and had : —
0) Robert (No. 364).
(b) James (No. 368).
(364) Robert Hamilton of Torrance, died 1625. Will recorded 19th May
1627 (Hamilton and Campsie). He married Beatrix, daughter of Andrew
Hamilton of Peill. Her Will recorded 20th August 1630 (Hamilton and
Campsie). They had issue : —
{a) Robert (No. 365).
(b) James (No. 366).
(365) Robert Hamilton of Torrance, died s.p. 1649. Will recorded 2nd August
1652 and 20th June 1655 (Glasgow). He was served heir to his father
14th May 1625. He married Jean, daughter of Porterfield of that Ilk.
Her Will recorded 7th February 1659. He was succeeded by his
brother : — -
(366) James Hamilton of Shiells and Torrance, died before 1664. He was
served heir to his brother 5th May 1649, and to his father 31st July 1661.
He married, first, Anne, daughter of Cunningham of Craig. Her Will
recorded 30th May 1628 (Hamilton and Campsie). By her he had a
daughter. He married, second, Anna Robertoun. In 1650 he sold
Torrance to Stewart of Castlemilk. By his second wife he had a
son : —
(367) Robert Hamilton, who was apprenticed in Edinburgh 27th July 1664. He
was the last of this line.
