56 THE HAMILTONS OF DALZELL
(228) Alexander Hamilton of Haggs. Will recorded 28th December 1608
(Edinburgh). He married Agnes Hamilton, and had : —
(a) John (No. 229).
(b) James Hamilton of Luggyhill.
(229) John Hamilton of Haggs. Will recorded 22nd March 1617 (Hamilton
and Campsie). He was served heir to his granduncle, John Hamilton
of Alderstoun (No. 226, b), 6th March 1616. He married Helen Dalma-
hoy, and had : —
(a) Alexander (No. 230).
(b) James Hamilton.
(230) Alexander Hamilton of Haggs. Will recorded 19th January 1652
(Hamilton and Campsie). He was served heir to his father 15th March
1617. He married Jean, daughter of Patrick Maxwell of Newark, and
had issue : —
(a) Alexander (No. 231).
(b) Patrick Hamilton. Will recorded 10th June 1674 (Hamilton
and Campsie). He married Janet, daughter of Matthew
Newlands of Kipps. She is named in a retour, 10th
September 1675.
(231) Sir Alexander Hamilton, Baronet of Haggs, died October 1699. He
was created a BARONET i ith February 1669-70. He married, first, Mary,
daughter of Murray of Babberton. Her Will recorded 27th October 1666
(Hamilton and Campsie). By her he had two daughters. The estate
of Haggs was sold in 1691 to Sir Archibald Hamilton, Bt. (No. 334),
who changed the name to Rosehall. He married, second, Janet, daughter
of the Laird of Grant, and had : —
(232) Sir Alexander Hamilton, second Baronet of Haggs, died unmarried
about 1710.
tlntt0 recorded in Lyon Office, 1672-77. — Gules, a salmon's head couped argent,
with an annulet through the nose proper (? or), between three cinque/oils of
the second. [Plate III., fig. 16.] CREST: A salmon hauriant argetit, havhig
an annulet tlirough the nose or. On Steel Matrix, N.D. — Three cinque/oils,
and at the /ess point a salmon head with a ring through its nose. CREST :
An oak tree traversed by a frame saw. Motto : " Through " (Laing).
