HntlB. — 1 and 4. Gules, three cinquefoils pierced ermine. 2 and 3. Argent, a
lympliad, sails furled, oars in action sable, over all an escutcheon azure
charged with three fleurs-de-lis or, and surmounted by a ducal coronet (for
Duchy of Chatelherault, claimed by this family). [Plate II., fig. 9, and
frontispiece.] CREST : Out of a ducal coronet or an oak fructed, and
traversed by a frame saw or, the blade inscribed "Through." SUPPORTERS :
Two antelopes argent, armed, tmguled, ducally gorged and chained or
MOTTOES : "Tlirough" and "Sola nobilitas virtus" (Burke's Peerage).
Trebinshun.

(39) William Hamilton of Chilston Park, Kent, third son of James Hamil-
ton (No. 30). He died 1737. He married Margaret, daughter of Sir
Thomas Colepeper of Holingbourne, Kent, who died 22nd October 1736,
leaving four sons : —
(a) John (No. 40).
(b) George Hamilton, married a daughter of Monsieur Vasserot,
and had issue.
(c) Thomas Hamilton, died in Ireland.
(d) William Hamilton, died young.
(40) John Hamilton of Chilston Park. Married, 1715, Mary, daughter of John
Wright, M.D., and had :—
(«) William Hamilton.
(b) John (No. 41).
(41) John Hamilton, baptised 21st February 1725-26; died 24th January 1784.
He was a Captain in the Navy, and for his gallantry at the siege of
Quebec he was created a Baronet, 26th August 1776. He married,
3rd October 1763, Cassandra, daughter of Edmund Chamberlayne of
Maugersbury, Gloucester, who died 26th October 1821, leaving: —
(a) Charles (No. 42).
(b) Edward (No. 44).
(42) Sir Charles Hamilton, second Baronet, bom 25th May 1767 ; died
14th September 1849. He married, 19th April 1803, Henrietta, only
daughter of George Drummond of Stanmore, Middlesex, who died 10th
March 1857, leaving an only son : —
(43) Sir Charles John James Hamilton, third Baronet, born 3rd April
1810; died 23rd January 1892. He married, 14th December 1833,
Catherine, daughter of William Wynne, of Dublin, who died 25th May
1879 S -P-
(44) Edward Joseph Hamilton, second son of John Hamilton (No. 41), born
12th March 1772; died 20th March 185 1. He was an Admiral, and for
his services was created a Baronet, 26th January 1819. He married,
1st November 1804, Frances, daughter of John Macnamara of Langoed
Castle, Brecon, who died 27th March 1840, having had issue: —
(a) John (No. 45).
(b) Arthur Hamilton, R.N., born 14th March 1810; died 22nd
June 1836.
