THE HAMILTONS OF ABERCORN 21
(2) Charles Hamilton, baptised 13th November 1704; died
nth September 1786. He married and left two
daughters.
(32) James, seventh Earl of Abercorn, born 22nd March 1685-86; died
nth January 1744. He married, 1711, Anne, daughter of Colonel John
Plumer of Blakesware, Hertfordshire, who died 10th August 1776,
leaving : —
(a) James (No. 33).
(b) John (No. 34).
(c) William Hamilton, died young.
(d) George Hamilton, born nth August 1718; died 26th Nov-
ember 1787. He married Elizabeth, daughter of Lieu-
tenant-General Richard Onslow, who died 1800, having
had:—
(1) George Hamilton, died unmarried nth October
1782.
(2 and 3) Two sons, died in infancy.
(e) Plumer Hamilton, died young.
(/) William Hamilton, born 18th February 1721 ; drowned 1744.
(33) James, eighth Earl of Abercorn, born 22nd October 1712; died un-
married 9th October 1789. On 24th August 1786 he was created a Peer
of Great Britain as VISCOUNT HAMILTON OF HAMILTON, Co. Leicester,
with remainder to his nephew and successor (No. 35).
(34) JOHN HAMILTON, second son of James, seventh Earl of Abercorn (No. 32),
drowned 18th December 1755. Married, November 1749, Harriet, natural
daughter of the Rt. Hon. James Craggs, who died 1st February 1769,
leaving a son : —
(35) JOHN James, ninth Earl of Abercorn, born after his father's death, July
1756; died 27th January 1818. In 1789 he succeeded his uncle (No. 33)
as Earl of Abercorn. On 15th October 1790 he was created Marquis
OF ABERCORN. He married, first, 20th June 1779, Catherine, daughter of
Sir Joseph Copley, Bt, who died 13th September 1791, leaving: —
(a) James (No. 36).
(b) Claud Hamilton, born 1st November 1787; died June 1808.
He married, second, 4th March 1792, Cecil, daughter of his uncle,
George Hamilton (No. 32, d), and had a daughter.
He married, third, 3rd April 1800, Anne Jane Gore, daughter of
Arthur, fourth Earl of Arran, and widow of Henry Hatton of Great
Clonard, who died s.p. 3rd May 1827.
(36) James, Viscount Hamilton, born 7th October 1786; died v.p. 27th May
1 8 14. He married, 25th November 1809, Harriet, daughter of John
Douglas, son of James, fourteenth Earl of Morton, who died 26th August
1833, leaving:—
(a) James (No. 37).
(b) Claud Hamilton, born 27th July 1813 ; died 3rd June 1884.
He married, 7th August 1844, Elizabeth Proby, daughter
of Granville, third Earl of Carysfort, who died 24th June
1900, having had : —
