Catherine, only child of James, Lord Paisley (No. 22, a), who died 24th
May 1723, leaving a daughter. He was succeeded by his kinsman (No. 31).
(29) Sir George Hamilton of Donalong, Co. Tyrone, and Nenagh, Co.
TlPPERARY, fourth son of James, first Earl of Abercorn (No. 2l), died
1679. He was created a BARONET about 1634, but the exact date is
unknown. He married, contract dated 2nd June 1629, Mary Butler,
daughter of Thomas, Viscount Thurles, eldest son of Walter, eleventh
Earl of Ormonde. She died August 1680, having had : —
(a) James (No. 30).
(b) Sir George Hamilton, a distinguished soldier in France,
killed about 1676. He married, 1665, Frances, daughter
of Richard Jennings of Sandridge, Hertfordshire, and
sister of Sarah, Duchess of Marlborough. She died
17th March 1731, leaving three daughters.
(c) Count Anthony Hamilton, born about 1646; died 20th April
1720. He was the author of Mtmoires de Gramont.
{d) Thomas Hamilton, died in New England.
(e) Richard Hamilton, died 17 17.
(/) John Hamilton, killed at battle of Aughrim, 1691.
(30) JAMES Hamilton, died 6th June 1673, after losing a leg in battle. In 1661
he married Elizabeth, daughter of John, Lord Colepeper, who died 1709.
They had issue : —
(a) James (No. 31).
(b) George Hamilton, killed at battle of Steinkirk in 1692.
(c) William (No. 39).
(31) James Hamilton of Donalong, Co. Tyrone, born 1661 ; died 28th Nov-
ember 1734. In 1701 he succeeded his kinsman (No. 28) as SIXTH EARL OF
ABERCORN and Lord Strabane. On 9th November 1701 he was created
VISCOUNT OF Strabane and Baron of Mountcastle. He married, 24th
January 1683-84, Elizabeth, daughter and heiress of Sir Robert Reading,
Bt, who died 16th March 1754, having had : —
(a) James (No. 32).
(b) Robert Hamilton, baptised 12th July 1687 ; died in infancy.
(c) Robert Hamilton, died in infancy.
(d) John Hamilton, born 1694; died unmarried 1714.
(e) George Hamilton, died in infancy.
(/) George Hamilton, died 3rd May 1775. Married, October
1719, Bridget, daughter of Colonel William Coward of
Wells, who died 24th August 1775. They had four
sons : —
(1) George Hamilton, born 1721 ; died unmarried.
(2) John Hamilton, born 1726; died unmarried
12th August 1756.
(3) William Hamilton, died unmarried June 1793.
(4) James Hamilton, died s.p. 1779, but was twice
married.
(£•) Francis Hamilton, born 1700; died 20th May 1746. He
married, 20th October 1733, Dorothy, daughter of James
Forth of Redwood, and had a son : —
(1) James Hamilton, died young.
(Ji) William Hamilton, baptised 20th October 1703 ; drowned
10th November 1721.
