Parkhead.
(129) George DOUGLAS of Parkhead, natural son of No. 121. He is mentioned,
Great Seal Register, 1574. He married Mariot, daughter and heiress of
James Douglas of Parkhead, and they are both mentioned in the Great
Seal Register, 1581. His Will recorded Edinburgh, 18th December 1602.
They had issue : —
(a) Sir James (No. 130).
(b) George Douglas of Mordington, married Margaret, daughter
of Archibald Dundas of Fingask, and had : —
(1) Sir George Douglas, Ambassador to Poland and
Sweden ; died s.p.
(2) James Douglas, who left a son, James, who
died s.p.
(c) Rev John (No. 132).
(130) SIR James Douglas OF Parkhead. He married, about 1587, Elizabeth,
daughter of William, Master of Carlyle, son of Michael, fourth Lord Car-
lyle, and in 1606 is styled Lord Carlyle and Lord Torthorwald. He was
assassinated in Edinburgh 14th July 1608. They had issue: —
(a) James (No. 131).
(b) Archibald Douglas.
(c) John Douglas.
(d) George Douglas.
HmtS in Fraser's "Funeral Escutcheons" — Argent, a heart crowned gules
within an engrailed bordure (? colour), on a chief azure three stars or.
(131) James, Lord Torthorwald. He married, first, before June 161 1, Elizabeth,
daughter of Sir Robert Gordon of Lochinvar, but divorced her about
1616; second, November 1618, Anne Saltonstall, but she divorced him
1622. By his second wife he had a son : —
(a) James, baptised 2nd January 1621, of whom nothing is
known.
HnilS on Seal, 161 7. — Per cross, in each quarter a cross potent, and in f ess point
a heart (Laing). 1 and 4. Argent, a cross flory gules (Carlyle). 2 and 3.
Gules, a cross or (Corsby). En surtout, Argent, a lieart gules, on a chief
azure three mullets of the first. CREST : Two dragons' heads and necks
addorsed vert. SUPPORTERS: Two peacocks proper. MOTTO : " Humili-
tate" (Nisbet's Heraldry). [Plate IV., fig. 7.]
(132) REV. John DOUGLAS, third son of No. 129. He was minister of St. Andrews
1621 ; D.D. 1622 ; appointed to Crail 1625. Died about 1635, aged fifty-
four (Scott's Fasti). He was probably father of: —
(a) Joseph (No. 133).
(b) Rev. Daniel Douglas, " of the family of Edrington," minister
of Hilton, Berwickshire, 1650-62, and 1689-1705. Died
24th July 1705, in his eighty-sixth year. He married a
sister of the Rev. James Hutcheson of Killallan (Scott's
Fasti). He was appointed tutor to Alexander and
William, sons of the late Joseph Douglas of Edrington
(his brother?), 1st March 1694.
(133) JOSEPH DOUGLAS OF EDRINGTON. His Will recorded Lauder, 6th February
1694. His son : —
