2o6 ATHLETICS
APPENDIX B
HINTS ON TRAINING FOR ATHLETICS
I. Athletic training is a very wide and complicated subject., and
therefore, only general hints can be given in these notes.
2. Here are some points which it might be well worth while to
remember :
(a) Systematic planning of an " All the year round " training
schedule is most essential if really good performances are to be
achieved, and Athletics " brought along."
(b) Too short and ill-planned training will do more harm than
good.
(c) To be really successful, Athletic coaching should be on an
individual basis. Individual coaching should, if possible, be started
after the " Novice " stage, but most certainly after the intermediate
stage has been reached.
(d) Stages of Training.
These will vary according to events and
competitive requirements. These stages are laid down as a guide
(i) Out of Season.
(ii) Preliminary Season.
(iii) Early Season.
(iv) Middle Season.
(v) Late Season.
