History
The Challenge Cup was generously presented by members of the
Army and Navy Club in
1929.
From
1929
to
1938
(when the last
pre-war Tournament was held) it was played for annually between
Service teams, each of 5 strings.
Originally there was a tacit understanding that the Tournament
should be played exclusively at the Army and Navy Club, and that
the Club should have a voice in the conditions of the Tournament.
Since the Second World War, however, the Club has graciously
written to say that, although the members hope the Club may from
time to time become the venue of the Tournament, it is now recog-
nised that the event has, in fact, become an Inter-Service Champion-
ship, the conditions for which should be left wholly to the Squash
Rackets Associations of the three Services.
Ten Tournaments have been played since the Second World
War.
