Army Lawn Tennis Championships
15.
The Association will conduct the Annual Army Lawn Tennis
Championships at the Officers' Club, Aldershot (normally held
during the last week in July). The following events are held :
(a)
The Army Singles Championship.
Open to all serving
officers and other ranks.
(b)
The Inter
-
Regimental Doubles
Championship. Open to
pairs of any rank serving in the same Unit.
(c)
The Open Doubles Championship.
Open to pairs of any
rank not necessarily in the same Unit.
(d)
Army Women's Services Singles
Championship. Open
to all serving members of the Army Women's Services.
(e) Army
Women's Services Open Doubles.
Open to pairs
of any rank, not necessarily in the same Unit.
(f)
Open Mixed Doubles.
Open to any serving officer or other
rank partnered by a member of one of the Army Women's Services
not necessarily in the same Unit.
(g)
Veterans' Singles.
Open to any serving or retired officer,
over the age of
47.
Played on handicap.
(h)
Veterans' Doubles.
Open to pairs of officers, serving or
retired, over the age of 47. Played on handicap.
In addition, " Plate " competitions are held for those knocked-out
in the first or first two rounds of events
(a)
and
(d),
if time permits.
16. The Executive Committee are empowered to arrange elimin-
ating rounds or competitions in order to keep the number of entries
to manageable proportions.
17. Eligibility to play in the Army Lawn Tennis Championships
is confined to those members of the active Army (Regular, Emer-
gency or National Service) who are actually serving on the last day
of the Championships. Those on release leave on that date are
eligible. Personnel of Dominion Armies carrying out attachments
of not less than six months are also eligible.
Matches
18. The Match Secretary is empowered to arrange matches and
to select teams. Such matches will be classified as " Representa-
tive " and "A" Fixtures.
19.
Travelling expenses will be refunded to players representing
the Army at the scales laid down from time to time by the Army
Sport Control Board.
Command Representatives
20.
In each Command, etc., laid down in Rule 4, there shall be a
representative of the Army Lawn Tennis Association, who shall be
a member of the General Committee of the Association.
21.
The Command Representatives will normally be other than
the Command Sports Board Representative.
22.
The Duties of this representative shall be :—
(a) To assist in the formation of Command, District and Garrison
Lawn Tennis Committees, where necessary.
