PART V—FACTS AND FIGURES

Certificates
A, B, C, Silver C, Gold C and Diamond C gliding certificates are
issued by The British Gliding Association on behalf of The Royal
Aero Club.
Holders of the " Silver C " gliding certificate are exempt from
the
4o
hours solo requirement for the Power' Flying " A " Licence.
Holders of the " C " are exempt from io hours of the same licence.
Certificate requirements are :—
A and B "
Two full solo circuits followed by normal
landings.
This requires a soaring flight of at least 5
minutes. In practice at Lasham any flight
lasting more than io minutes in a Grunau
or Prefect counts. In addition an oral
examination must be passed on " Rules of
The Air."
" Silver C " in three parts :—
(a) A flight of not less than 5 hours.
(b) A flight of not less than
5o
kms. (about 32
miles).
(c) A gain of height of not less than i,000 metres
(approx. 3,300 ft.)
" Gold C " in two parts :—
(a) A flight of not less than Soo kms. (about
187 miles).
(b)
A gain of height of not less than
3,000
metres
(about io,000 ft.)
" Diamond C." Diamonds may be awarded for :—
(a) A flight of not less than Soo kms. to a pre-
announced goal.
(b)
A flight of not less than Soo kms. (approx.
3 12
miles).
(c) A gain of height of not less than
5,000
metres
(about
17,000
ft.)
As soon as you qualify, application should be made on the relevant
forms obtainable from the resident Chief Flying Instructor. Certi-
ificates must be issued in the above order, i.e., you cannot get a "C"
until you have an "A" and "B."
