BASKET BALL
(4) Whenever play is suspended except as provided for in the
rules.
In the event of a tie, the teams shall change ends and play extra
periods of 5 minutes until a decision is reached. One minute
interval shall be allowed for each change over.
16.
Running with the Ball.—
Running with the ball is not per-
mitted. After catching the ball with one or both hands only one
further step may be taken before passing, throwing for goal, pivotting
or dribbling.

Kicking or Punching.—
Kicking or punching the ball is
not allowed.

Pivot.—A Pivot takes place when a player with the ball
steps once or more times with the same foot whilst the other foot
is stationary or used as a pivot. If one foot is in advance of the
other only the rear foot shall be used as a pivot, otherwise either
foot may be used. Pivotting is permissible after a dribble.

Dribble.
—A dribble is made by tossing (once only at the
beginning of a dribble), bouncing, batting, or rolling the ball in any
direction with one hand, but as soon as it comes to rest in one or
both hands the dribble ceases, and the ball must be disposed of.

a throw-in to the opposing team from the nearest point out of
bounds.
20.
Jump Ball.
—Jump Ball is when the ball is thrown up by
the Referee between two opposing players.
21.
Held
Ball.
—When the ball is unduly withheld from play
or two opposing players take hold of it simultaneously it is termed
" held ball " and the Referee will throw the ball up between the
two players involved.
22.
Out
of
Bounds.
—The ball is out of bounds when it, or the
player holding it, touches the end or side lines, the ground or any
object beyond the end of sidelines. The throw-in is taken from the
spot where the ball touched the line or crossed it and is awarded
to the opposite side to that last playing the ball before it went out.
When taking the throw-in the player shall stand behind the line
and no player must be nearer than 3 feet to him. When a ball in
the air or in a player's hands passes over the end or side lines (if
it has not touched the ground or any object outside the court) it
is still playable, providing the player's feet are still within the court.
If it is doubtful who touched the ball last before going out, the
Referee shall throw the ball up between two opposing players within
the court, one yard from the point where it went out. In the case
of the ball lodging in the supports of the baskets it is thrown up
between two centre players at the free throw line.
23.
Personal Fouls.—
Holding, pushing, hacking the arm,
charging, blocking, tripping or rough play of any description con-
stitutes a personal foul and the penalty is a free throw for goal from
behind the 15-feet line. The player fouled shall take this throw and
