substitutes unless otherwise stipulated. All players shall be
numbered with letters 6 inches high and i inch wide fastened at the
back of their vests. Similar numbers 3 inches by

inch should
be affixed on the front of the vests. Numbers i and
2
should not
be used. The captain only may address any official, but a player
v fishing to leave the court shall report to the Referee. There may be
two categories of teams, one limited height and the other unlimited
height of players.
io. Substitutions.—Substitutions shall be ordered by the
captain or coach and shall not take longer than 30 seconds or it
shall count as " time-out." A player may re-enter the game twice
after being substituted. A substitute shall report to the Scorer
and the Referee before taking the place of another player.
ii.
Choice of
Ends.
—The visiting team shall have choice of
ends. At half-time the teams shall change over.
12.
Start.—The game is started by the Referee tossing up the
ball between the two centre players to a greater height than either
can reach. When the ball is in the air the Referee shall blow the
whistle and the centre players may then jump to touch the ball in
any direction. Neither centre player may tap the ball more than
twice before it has been touched by _ one of the other players on
either side. When a team gains possession of the ball in its own
court the ball must be advanced into the opponents' court within
io seconds unless it be touched by an opponent, when the io seconds
rule again begins to operate. Once the ball is taken over the centre
line a player cannot pass it back into his own court until :—
(i) A try for goal has been made.
(2)
A jump ball has taken place.
(3) An out of bounds award has been given.
(4) The ball has been touched by an opponent.
13. Goal.—A goal is scored when the ball enters the basket from
above. Two points are counted for an ordinary goal and i point
for a goal scored from a free throw. After a goal is scored the ball
is passed to the Referee, who will return it to a player to throw in
from the end line.

After the last free throw following a double foul.
(3) After a free throw for goal following a technical foul whether
or not a goal is scored.
(4) After an illegal free throw for the basket.

ith an interval of io minutes. Time shall be deducted whenever
the game is legally stopped for :—
(i) Technical and personal fouls.
(2)
For injuries.
(3) For " time-out " (only three periods permitted of one
minute each per team).
