DescriptionAllan MacDonald of Knock,"Some hints regarding the dress, customs and manners of the Gaelti, thrown together, loosely, by an officer, on board a transport in Chebucto Harbour, before Hallifax, Nova Scotia, 1776". Written apparently with the aim of submitting it for publication in the Nova Scotia Gazette, in response to comments found in no. 297 of this paper. With a collection, ff. 13-47, of notes on poetry and Irish and Scottish Gaelic songs and poems. Paper, i+51 ff., with a thick paper cover. Ff. 48-51 blank.

Gaelic manuscripts of Scotland
DescriptionA selection of Gaelic manuscripts from the 14th to 19th centuries. Many composite volumes with several authors and contributors, and subjects including songs, religion, history and mythology. Primarily in vernacular and classical Gaelic, but also Scots and Latin. Highlights include 15 medical manuscripts belonging to the Beaton family of physicians, 16th-century poetry in the Book of the Dean of Lismore, and the genealogies of the '1467 manuscript'.
