Description	Unveiling of memorial, Messines, Belgium, after World War I. This is one of two photographs of Field Marshal (Earl) Haig (1861-1928) at the unveiling of the memorial of the London Scottish Regiment at Messines, Belgium. It shows Haig talking to the Belgian king, Albert I (1875-1934). They appear to be walking away after the ceremony. The London Scottish Regiment was the first Territorial regiment in action at the Battle of Messines on 31 October 1914. [Original reads: 'UNVEILING OF THE MEMORIAL CROSS OF THE LONDON SCOTTISH REGIMENT BY H.M. THE KING OF THE BELGIANS AT MESSINES, BELGIUM. Earl Haig replying to the King of the Belgians and thanking him for unveiling the Memorial.']
