| Description | Men lifting the curved corrugated-iron sheets to build a Nissen hut. Nissen huts provided good warm accommodation which could be set up in a few hours. They were used for billeting troops and for other purposes, such as field hospitals. Two of the men who appear to be wearing the flatter German caps may be prisoners of war. According to the Hague Convention of 1907, which set down the rules for prisoners of war, it was possible to make prisoners undertake non-military work.
