| Description | This view of the village of Bucquoy, taken from a high position, clearly shows the devastation caused during the War. Like so many towns and villages dotted across the Western Front, Bucquoy suffered greatly. Many French civilians who were forced to leave their home, when they returned found nothing more than a pile of bricks and rubble. This sadly all too familiar sight was probably captured by John Warwick Brooke. Countless French and Belgian civilians were made homeless by the War.
