| Description | Captured German soldiers being escorted over a rough and uneven landscape. They are walking away from the camera. The German prisoners can be easily identified by the helmets they are wearing. Many of them have been wounded and are being helped along the road by their comrades. It is a bleak and barren place they are moving through, with no signs of life Images of captured German soldiers were often used by the Government and Military as propaganda. The intention was to boost morale amongst the troops and reassure those at home that the Allies were in fact winning the war. [Original reads: 'OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH TAKEN ON THE BRITISH WESTERN FRONT.
