| Description | A large group of soldiers at a training school, in France, during World War I. Some of the men nearer the front are holding weapons. The men in the distance merge to form a sea of faces. At the back of the group there are members of the cavalry sitting on their horses. There are hundreds, if not thousands of men in this photograph. The ground they are standing on must be a vast open space to accommodate so many men. Off into the distance some trees are visible. The caption for a similar photograph adds 'Hard work and healthy surroundings keep all in the finest condition physically.' Scenes such as this were commonly used as propaganda, intended to boost morale amongst the troops and provide reassurance to those at home.
