| Description | Cavalry crossing a flooded stretch of ground. According to the photograph's original caption it has been flooded by the Germans. It is possibly farmland they are travelling through, although with the flooding it is difficult to tell. There are many trees in the background. Often damage caused to land, villages and towns was wrongly attributed to the Germans, and subsequently used as propaganda to reaffirm resolve against the enemy. [Original reads: 'GREAT BRITISH ADVANCE IN THE WEST. An area flooded by the Germans now used as a watering place.'] |
