THE VERB
Preverbs
The perfective preverb ro, now used only in the combinations
nior, gur, &c.j is found in ro sgriobh, 23, 89 ; ro ráidh, 26, 60, 70 ; ro an,
31, 260; rofhdgatbh, 31, 311. Neither in ro nor in the common sub-
stitute do is the vowel elided: do an, 31, 310; do éirigh, 18, 19. The
same applies to do with impf. or cond. for older no: do anadh, 17, 16;
dofhágbhadh, 22, 12; do iarrjd, 19, 11. The of the prep, do is, of
course, regularly elided before a vowel.
Tenses and Endings
The Present Indicative
The old 2 sg. active is found in ataoi, -fuile, -Jaice.
The 3 sg. has three endings : absolute -idh {-aidJi), relative -eas (-as),
and conjunct -eann {-ann).
pi. I -maid only in atámaid, otherwise -niaoid, -mid.
Note thuigmid (not tJmigimid), 31, 210.
pass. The old ending in dleaghair, later dlighthear.
The Imperfect
pi. 3 -cuirdis (not -cuiridis), 14, 19; íío thionóildis, 24, 7.
The s-Perfect
The normal type was as follows :

2 do ghabhais do ghabhsaidh, do ghabhsabha{i)r
3 do ghabh do ghabhsad
The plural has been altered in Mid. and Mod. Ir., do ghabhsam
