THE MOURNERS SONG.
THE MOURNER'S SONG.

Prepare my dreamless pillow ;

Beneath the friendly willow : —
AVhere through my heart no more will move
Or fear, or hope, or joy, or love !
Fear : if acquaintance reconciles
Spirits of adverse form, —
Cheerful might I encounter toils,
Nor dread each threatening storm ;
But Fear sits brooding o'er my heart
To aggravate the coming dart !
Hope : she subdued my anguish long,
But I have lost the maid ;
Grown wearied of her soothing song
She sought a milder shade ;
