PL I. Page 55. Opening page of Táin Bó Cúailnge. Handwriting of
A with interpolation by H and corr. M (col. b. 11-13). See p. 143. This
page is much faded in places, and the stiff and wrinkled membrane with
its polished surface resists all attempts to obtain a legible reproduction.
The firobatio fiennae mail 7iniri mc mc cuind can be discerned above
the word duib, col. b, line 1 ; cuiwd is faintly traceable in the negative, but
the membrane is stained, due, perhaps, to the use of a re-agent. The title,
only partly traceable here, appears to be in the hand of M, the line having
been left blank by A. Cp. 7b4i, and p. 5, where the Amra begins without
title, the first line being filled by a quatrain in the hand of M. M would
seem to have begun to transcribe at the end of col. b, when he added the
title and his firobatio fte?inae, H afterwards erasing what he wrote.
PI. IT. Page 70. Táin Bó Cúailnge. Handwriting of M with inter-
polation by H (col. b). The interpolated portion is written over a washed
and abraded surface, the ink appearing somewhat paler than the rest of the
page. There is evidence of retracing on this page. Note in col. a, last
line but one, the r of resi;/. The probatio fiennae on the upper margin
was evidently written after the invocation Oémat (O Emanuel), which is
in darker ink, as if retraced. Observe through the natural hole in the
membrane, col. a, the ess of preceding leaf, which is in the handwriting
of M, but the head, in paler ink, has been added later to the first s.
