In this rainy feafon the hills ftreamed

in contrary diredions as they fell to the
north or fouth of the fummit. Being, by
the favour of the Duke, well mounted, I

From Glencroe we pafled through a plea-
fant country to the banks of Loch Lomond,
and were received at the houfe of Sir
"James CoIqiihouHy who is owner of alraoft
all the thirty iflands of the Loch, which we
went in a boat next morning to furvey.
The heavinefs of the rain fliortened our
voyage, but we landed on one ifland
planted with yew, and flocked with deer,
and on another containing perhaps not
more than half an acre, remarkable for the
ruins
