The root is fhort, thick, truncated and crown'd
with fibres. The ftalks naked and branch'd.
The radical leaves numerous, fmooth, of a va-
riable figure, commonly deeply indented, or la-
ciniated half-way down to the rib, the lacinut
acute and intire. Sometimes they are almoft
intire, being only (lightly dented. The ftalk is
tumid under the flower. The calyx fmooth ; the
flowers yellow. The feed longifh, and crown'd
with a plumofe feffile down.
The flower opens about feven o'clock in the morn-
ing, and clofes at three in the afternoon.
