264 MISCELLANEOUS POEMS.
Oh ! God, her curls float o'er the pool,
Like flowers of Eden, beautiful —
She's drowned! our little Emmeline,
Our dainty little Emmeline,
Our heaven, taken child !
TIME FLIES.
Day after day's gone by,
And who their course could stay ?
Day after day, they fly —
Day after day, decay :
We note them not when they are nigh,
Then wonder they're away.
! days once bright and clear
That filled this casing air —
Days to past thoughts so dear —
Days to lost hopes so fair —
Days to the heart's best wishes near —
The heart's warm love that bear.
To me, as well as you,
A certain night is nigh,
And when your flight I view.
Day after day, on high,
I would that hour of darkness gi-ew
Less dreadful to mine eye.
For, just to me as you,
Another day is near,
Wlien a sweet dawn and new
Will to mine eyes appear :
Death's but a step, a sigh — sin's due —
Then love^, and then no fear!
