" Seven years before tliat awful day,

A watery deluge shall o'crswecp
Hibernia's mossy shore.
The green-clad Isia too shall sink,
Whilst with the great and good,
Columba's happy isle shall rear
Her towers above the flood."
in North Britain, since the days of St. Columba, to whom the public are
more indebted, than to the Reverend Dr. Smith, for his faithful translation
of the scriptures, and several religious books, besides many other works of
liis own composition, which will be useful to succeeding ages. Add to
this his holy and exemplary life and conversation : his name ought to be
recorded in the annah of history— as a great divine, a bright geBJas^ asd a
good man.
