V. 395. The twanging Bow let eager Fergus hend.] This Fergus, ac-
cording to fome Traditions, was the Anceftor of Fergus, the Son of Ere
or Jrcath, commonly called Fergus the Second in the Scotch Hiftories.
The Beginning of the Reign of Fergus over the Scots is placed, by the
mod approved Annals oi Scotland, in the fourth Year of the fifth Age; a
full Century after the Death of Ojfian. The Genealogy of his Family is
recorded thus by the Highland Senachies : Fergus Mac-Areatb, Mac-
Cbongael, Mac-Fergus, Mac-Fion-Gael na huai ; i. e. Fergus the Son of
Jrcath, the Son of Congal, the Son of Fergus, the Son of Fingal the
Vidorious.
