Concerning the answer to Mr Kennedy's
invocation, let us now enquire. I shall take
the two first pieces, which he claims in his
letter, Carril and Bas Ossian, which, be-
sides being the first in the order of the au-
thor, are probably also the highest in merit,
from the circumstance of their having been
selected by the learned Chairman of the So-
ciety's Committee, in his report, as speci-
mens of Mr Kennedy's Collection. As this
is a point of much consequence to our argu-
ment, it is proposed to enter into a short
analysis of these pieces.
