ri^HE name of Bunyan, as a Divine, stands too high to need the
aid of panegyric. The applause of the world, conveyed through the sen-
timents of the soundest judges, has consecrated his fame.
The merits of the HOLY WA R are of the highest order, and shovs's through-
out an intimate knowledge of the human heart, manifested in a great variety of
characters ; and it exhibits the truths of experimental religion in a most striking,
ingenious, and instructive manner.
The Work is divided into Chapters, and their contents specified; while the
Author's Marginal Annotations, wliich explain the Allegory, are retained, and
Explanatory Notes added.
The Gaelic is Fure and Classical, devoid of ambiguous terms and obsolete ex-
pressions, and will be understood in any district of the Highlands. The Manu-
script has been perused by a Gentleman wlio is considered among the best Gaelic
Scholars in the North, who approves of the translation, simplicity, and arrange-
ment of the style and orthography.
