In 1643, the said William Maekintos-h procures
Eobert Farquharson of Invercauld and William
Mackintosh of Kelachie as cautioners for a
pressing debt, and grants them security over his
Lochaber Estates. Koberl's son, Alexander,
married Isabella Mackintosh, daughter vi the
above mentioned Williau] Mackintosh. Their
second, and surviving .^on, John Faniuhaifon,
ai d Laclilan Matkii tosh of Mackintosh, who
distinguished themselves in the '15, as after-
rrentioned, were thus 'cousins in the first and
second degree.
In 1664 Lachlan Mackintosh, 19th Mac-
kintosh, resolved to bring the 300 years' quarrel
with tie Camerons to a final issue, and
summoned all his friend.o, vassals and kin. In
the List of Deeds will Ve found /oc-s!to//c of the
very important deed granted by the Clan upon
tlii.s occasion. It is in the hand-writing of Lach-

FARQUHARSON.
["Clans oj the ScoHish Uiijhlar.
Ian Mackintosh of Ivinrara, the historian, whom I
have so frequently quoted, and is titled "Bond be
certane of the name of Clan Chattan, to tl eir
Chieflf, dated 19th Nov., 1664," and is signed by
6 Macphersons, 5 Mackintoshes, 4 Farquharsons,
3 MacGillivrays, 2 Macbeans, 2 Shaws, 1 Mac-
queen, with two by initials, all men of position
and standing. The Farquharsons who sub-
scribed were — 1. James Farquharson of Inverey.
2. Chailes Farquharson of Monaltiie. 3. James
Farquharson, younger of Whitehouse, who died
s. p. ; and 4. George Farquharson, without
designation, probably Bronchdearg.
Thwarted by powerful ill wishers and deter-
uiined foes, amongst others by the Marquis
of Huntly, the Earls of Aboyne and of Moray
in the North and East, with the Earls of Argyle
and Breadalbane in the West and South, who
created dissensions among the Clan Chattan,
ISIackintosh had for a time to forbear.
