Shaw Mackenzie was long a judge in the
Bombay Presidency, and his poitiait, with a
representation of the place of Newhall, is here
given. Mr. Shaw Mackenzie takes a deep
interest in his property, and iu county afl'airs, and
has lately obtained much and deserved credit by
prominently advocating the construction of a
railway from Cromarty to connect with the
Highland system, thereby developing and
opening up tliat important district of the Black
Isle, which faces the Cromarty Firth. By his
wife, Ellen, daughter of Major General John
Ramsay, he lias seven sons and two daughters —
Vero Kemball, B.A. Cantab, John Alexander,
M.D., London, George Maleolm, Charles
Frederick Dillon, Andrew Crokat, Grenville
Reid, Alexander Nesbitt Eol)ertson, Anna
Catharine, and Ellen Isabella.
