242 GLAMIS. [Forfarshire
GLAMIS.
With the Parishes and Villages of BASSIB, NBVAY,
CHARLESTON, NEWTON, MILTON, THORNTON,
DRUMGLEY, GRASSHOUSES and ARNIFOUL.
/ y LAMIS village and parish is situated in the south-west of Forfarshire,
\J about 5 miles to the west of the town of Forfar. A portion of the
Valley of Strathmore, slopes of the Sidlaw Hills, and intervening Glens, are
situated in these Parishes. Population of the village between 300 and 400.
Glamis Castle, the seat of the Earl of Strathmore, stands in the northern
part of the village, and figures historically as being once a Royal Palace,
and the death-place of Malcolm II.
Eassie Parish is 8 miles west from Forfar.
Post Office, Glamis — John Langlands, Postmaster. Letters from all
parts arrive (from Forfar) at 8.45 morning, and from Meigle at 1.0 afternoon,
and are despatched to Forfar and the North at 7.15 & 11.45 morning, and
2.30 and 5.30 p.m., and from the South at 9.0 a.m., and from Forfar and the
North at 7.30 p.m.
^•Letters for Glamis, Charleston, and Nevay should be addressed
"near Forfar," and for Eassie, "near Meigle," Perthshire.
