HERIOT-WATT COLLEGE.
This institution, the annual provision for which is to be
not less than ^^4,000, is mainly intended to give thorough
scientific instruction, at moderate fees, to students in at-
tendance at evening classes. Day classes for higher technical
training were established in the College in 1888. In the
bursary system, established in connection with the Heriot-
Watt College, are included bursaries for (i) " covering the
cost of education & books " of students requiring aid in
attending the evening classes ; & (2) assisting students to
carry on their education in the day technical department,,
or in the Universitj- of Edinburgh
There were over 4,128 students (male & female) in attend-
ance at the evening classes in session 1902-1903
