The parish is bounded by Hechlick on the
north and Old Meldrum on the west, and
is watered in its eastern quarter by the
river Ythan; its length is about 9 miles
and its breadth 6, and embraces an area
of 16,303 acres. The general outline o:
the parish is a flat surface, interspersed
with some hills of inferior altitude. The
soil is diversified in its composition, but i;
for the most part fertile, and there are
some fine plantations on the verge of the
river. In the village is the parish church
and public school. Craigdam is a hamlet
in this parish. The area is 16,303 acres;
.rateable value, £14,728. Population in
1891, 2,344, and in 1901, 2,239; ecclesias-
tical parish, 1,644.

TOUGH parish is 1 mile from White-
house railway station, 2$ miles south-east
from Alford, 23 south-south-east from
Huntly and 22 north-west from Aberdeen,
in the small debt court district of Aber-
deen. Several druidical remains may be
seen in this district, one of which, on the
hill, about 2 miles from the church, still
retains the name of the Old Kirk of
Tough. Area, 7,108 acres; rateable value,

from Alford station on the Great North
of Scotland railway and 23 south from
Huntly, and is watered by the Don, which
flows through it from east to west. The

are united parishes, lying 27 miles north-
west from Aberdeen and 18 south-south'
east from Huntly, on the north bank of
the Don, one mile and three quarters dis-
tant from Alford station on the Great
North of Scotland railway, and in the

appearance of the country is rather moun-
tainous, some of the hills being of con-
siderable altitude, and game is abundant.
