Head-Master - - NATHANIEL LEA SK, A.M. (Edin.)
THE PREMISES have recently undergone extensive repairs and alterations, araountin<? in some sections of the Building to entire
reconstruction ; they are now believed to be unsurpassed in Scotland for extent and adaptaljility to educational purposes.
THE PLAYGROUNDS, surrounding the Institution, are upwards of 10 acres in extent, well sheltered by wood, and specially laid
out for the recreation of pupils.
CLASSES.— The number in each Class is strictly limited, and the Classes are sub-divided, so that, as far as pcs^-ible, boys of the
SAme ability and attainments may be placed together; in this way each pupil receives much individual attention from tlie master.
PREPARATION OF LESSONS is carried on upon a thoroughly organised system, securing the maximum of application and
progress on the part of the pupils.
UNIVERSITY EXAMINERS.— Each department of the School is annually examined by independent examiners of the highest
s-tanding, from whose reports the following extracts are made: —
CLASSICS.— "Abbey Park Institution, from tlie excellence of its educational and other arrangements, will bear favourable
'^o™pa"''8on with any other Institution of a similar kind with which I am acquainted."— Pbofessok Ceombie, D.D.
MATHEMATICS. — " The examiners are satisfied that botli the extent of profession and the accuracy with which the work was
prepared are equal to what may be found in the highest schools in the country."— Puofessok Kelland.
ARITHMETIC.—" So far ag proficiency in Arithmetic is concerned, Mr. Leash's pupils can hold their own with those of any other
•dUMtional institution, whether public or private, in the country."— Professor Bireell.
ENGLISH.—" The training under which the pupils have acquired their habits of composition has obviously been both exceed-
ingly careful and judioioui; the composition, punctuation, and spelling are, as a rule, very correct ; the essays are, without exception,
highly creditable."- Peofessoe Veitch. • r o , , j
^'^1^1^^^ LANGUAGES.— "One very excellent feature of the paper done by your boys is, besides the very high percentage
reac nod, the ntniuit of their work, there being between the first and last boys a difference of only 28.4 ; this is a result very seldom
obtained, and spfaka smphatlcally of the excellence of the teaching."— M. KuNZ.
