No. 252. Dated 27th January, 1859.
The above invention is for the purpose of BINDING the EDGES of any material, snch as Stays, Boots
Shoes, Hats, Caps, Coats, Vests, Trousers, Mantles, Bags, Carpets, Rugs, &c, &c, &c. The
work ia more durable, besides making a neat and more finished appearance than when done by hand,
and the saving of time is immense.
They have the following advantages over other Guides :—
The material is forced into the binding and held Arm until sewed. The needle cannot miss the edge
of binding. Any curve or angle can be sewn a uniform distance from the edge. The same Guide is
adjustable to different widths of tape. The apparatus can be applied to the various sewing machines
at present in use, and taken off when required for ordinary stitching.
