XiAUDER is ail ancient royal burgh, the seat of a presbyteiy, and
the capital of its parish, as it is of the district of Lauderdale; 25
mUes s.E. of Edinburgh, 35 w. of Benvick, 21 n. of Jedburgh, 22
B.w. of Coldstream, 20 s.w. of Dunse, 17 n.w. of Kelso, 12 w. of
Greenlaw, 7 n. of Earlstoun, and about 6 miles from the Stow station
on the North British railway. It is situated in the vale of the
