In connection with the foregoing society there is a Ladies' Com-
mittee, of which the Eight Hon. the Countess of Mar and Kellie,
the Right Hon. the Lady Balfour of Burleigh, Mrs Bruce of Kennet,
and Mrs Johnstone of Alva, are Patronesses. Miss Moir, Bedford
Place, Alloa, is Convener of the Alloa Ladies' Committee.
Auxiliary to the Edinburgh Institution for Deaf and
Dumb. — The Alloa Auxiliary Society (Dr W. D, Bruce, secre-
tary) contributes upwards, of £20 per annum, and has at
pi'esent two pupils receiving their education in this Institution.
ALLOA INDUSTRIAL HOME.- Mrs Cunningham, matron.
In October 1876 it was agreed at a general meeting of subscribers
to alter the character of this Institution from that of a " Ragged
and Industrial School" to that of "The Alloa Home for Destitute
and Neglected Children."
The boys, of whom at present there are 18 lodged, fed, and
clothed, in the house, are taught to make fire-lighters, &c., and
are educated at one of the seminaries in town. The Home is
sujiported by subscriptions and donations. There are also two
girls, who are taught sewing and assist in house work.

In connection with several of the churches in Alloa there
are benevolent schemes in operation intended to meet the
wants of the poorer classes of society, more especially during
the inclemency of winter. There are also several Ladies'
ocietiea organized for philanthropic purposes.
