The principal Landowners and Heritors are James Orr of
Harviestoun, William James Haig of Dollarfield, James
M 'Arthur Moir of Hillfoot, and Mrs Millar of Sheardale.
CLACKMANNAN.
Clackmannan is a narae of unknown origin and antiquity:
— From a careful review of old Royal Charters and Deeds, it is
evident, that the name, in its early stages, did not refer to a
Castle or Tower, hut to a District of country — now known as
Clackmannanshire, which district, along with that of Kinross,
was anciently connected with Fotiiekiff — also a narae of
obscure origin, but now known as the western district of Fife.

ALLOA DIVISION OF THE "SONS OF TEMPERANCE"
FRIENDLY SOCIETY, No. 459.
Instituted 14th September, 1875.
Present membership, 40. Meets in Christian Institute every
alternate Monday to propogate total abstinence from all intoxi-
cants. Secures 10s weekly during sickness to its members, £10 at
death, and other advantages. This is the only Temperance
Friendly Society in this district for the purpose of proving that
the principles of Total Abstinence are conducive to health. Tem-
perance men should encourage it. The oflficebearers at present
are as follows : — H. Ferguson, W.P. ; J. Robin, W.A. ; T.
