REGULATIONS OF PORTERS,
As fixed by the Magiftrates of ' Glafgow > 2*]th Dec. 1 79 2 ►
By an A& of the Magistrates and Town Council
of Glafgow, no Porter fhali refufe employment, when
he is not otherwife engaged, under the penalty of
2s. 6d. fterling for the iirft offence, 5s. for the fe-
cond, and 10s. for every fubfequent offence; and all
Porters who fay they are engaged, mall fpecify the
perfon by whom, and the hour at which, they are
engaged, and they fhall not refufe to be employed in
the interval, between the time they are required to
ierve and the hour of their engagement, under the
penalties aforefaid. As the Porters who wear badges
on their breaft, find fecurity for their honefly and
fidelity, the Magiftrates recommend it to the inhabi-
' tants to employ only thofe Porters in matters of im-
portance. The following is a Table of their Fees:
Carrying a letter or letters, parcel or parcels, not exceeding 7
pounds weight, from any part of the City or New Town to
any other place therein, - 01
Carrying a letter or letters, parcel or parcels, not exceeding 7
pounds weight, from any part of the City or New Town to
any other place therein, if delivered to the Porter after nine
o'clock at night - - - ©a
Carrying a letter or letters, parcel or parcels, not exceeding 7
pounds weight, from any part of the City or New Town, to
Anderfton, Bridgetown, New Bafon of the Canal, or any
place not exceeding an Englilh mile from the Crofs, - 03
If delivered to the Porter after eight o'clock at night, - 04
For running an exprefs with a letter, or fmall parcel, for every
Englifh mile outward in the day time - - 03
If in the night time, that is, after eight o'clock at night o 4
Carrying a back load, not exceeding eight Englifh ftones, from
any Ware -room in Glafgow to any other Ware-room or
Calender, where the diftance does not exceed 500 yards o i
