ADDRESS.
The Publishers of the Post Office Greenock Directory
beg to return their acknowledgments for the very liberal patron-
age hitherto bestowed on the Publication. It has ever been
their aim to prepare it as accurately as possible, and, from time
to time, to introduce such improvements as the means placed at
their disposal would furnish. On no former occasion have
greater exertions been made in order to arrive at accuracy, and,
notwithstanding the many difficulties peculiar to a work of this
description, the Publishers indulge the hope that their_exertions
this year will prove satisfactory.
The Publishers have to apologise for keeping out the Shipp-
ing List this year owing to the returns, in the great majority of
instances, not being promptly made, and in many cases no
returns were made at all.
The Publishers have with confidence determined on giving the
Public the advantage of an Annual Issue of the Directory, be-
cause it may thus be greatly improved and made more generally
useful, and they shall continue to avail themselves of every kind
of information likely to render the Directory indispensable, and
they trust the Public, by their support and friendly aid, will
second an effort that has been so well begun to facilitate inter-
communication, and to supply information respecting mails,
local statistics, trade, and institutions.
