Foreign and Colonial Parcel Post.

Dimensions. — The dimensions allowed are : —
For Argentine Republic, Corsica, France, Italy, Persia {via Russia)
Samoa {via Hamburg) — 2 feet in any direction. Parcels somewhat
exceeding 2 ft. in length are accepted if their other dimensions are
inconsiderable.
For Abyssinia, Benadir, Brazil, Dahomey, Dutch East Indies, Erithrea,
French Congo, French Guiana, French Guinea, French Oceania, French
Somali Coast, French West Indies, Ivory Coast, Madagascar, Mauritania,
Mauritius (via France), New Caledonia, Paraguay, Pitcairn Island.
Portuguese Timor, Reunion, St Pierre and Miquelon, Senegal, Tripol:
(Africa), Tunis, Turkey (Austrian Agencies) — greatest length, 2 ft.
greatest length and girth combined, 4 ft. Parcels slightly exceeding
2 feet in length are admitted (if their other dimensions are small) t<
Algeria, China (Chinese P.O.'s), Crete, Cuba, Ecuador, French Indo
China, German South-west Africa, Greece, Japan {via Russia), Turkey
(Ottoman Post, Asia), Venezuela.
For Canada — Greatest length, 2 ft. 6 in. ; length and girth combined, 6 ft
Parcels measuring as much as 3 ft. 6 in. in length, but not exceedinj
6 ft. in length and girth combined, are admitted, provided that th>
contents are articles which cannot be divided.
For Mexico— Greatest length, 2 ft. ; greatest length and girth combined
6 ft.
For places named in the Table of Parcel Postage— other than thos<
detailed above — same as for Inland Parcel Post.
The postage must in all cases be paid in advance, by means of postage stamp
affixed by the sender. Each parcel must be plainly directed, and shouL
bear the words "Parcel Post" in the upper left-hand corner, and the nam
and address of the sender. The date of posting should also be added
A parcel must not be posted in a letter box, but, as in the case of the Inlan
Parcel Post, must be taken into a Post Office and presented at the counter.
Parcels will be liable to Customs duties and regulations, and the sender c
each parcel will be required to make a Customs declaration furnishing — upo
a special form provided for the purpose, which can be obtained at any Pos
Office — an accurate statement of the contents and value, the date of posting
and other particulars. Arrangements have been made with many Foreig
Countries whereby senders may take upon themselves the payment of th
Customs charges if they so desire.
No letter whatever may be sent in a parcel addressed to any Foreig
Country, or to many British possessions. Invoices in open envelopes, givh:
particulars of the goods contained in the parcel may, however, be enclosed.
Parcels containing coin, watches, jewellery, or any article of gold or silve
cannot be sent by Parcel Post to any Foreign Country or British Possession ii
eluded in the insurance system, unless they are insured for at least part <
their value, and packed according to special regulations.
Parcels should be securely packed, and must, if for Foreign Countries, be ,
sealed that they cannot be opened without the seals being broken.
