the rules and practice of the Society, in ascertain-
ing and allocating the surplus funds, there are the
strongest grounds for expecting that at no septennial
investigation will a lower rate of addition be declared
than at the previous one. This is a matter of con-
siderable importance — at least it is desirable that the
public should be aware that they ought not, without
inquiry, to take for granted, that because an office
has declared a certain rate of addition, the continu-
ance of this may be depended upon. Indeed, it
cannot be denied that the prospectuses and adver-
tisements of very respectable offices are calculated
to lead to an anticipation of additions wliich can
only end in disappointment.
Farther information, and Prospectuses with
Tables of Rates, may he obtained from any of
the Agents, or at the Head Office from
WILLIAM SPENS, Manager.
