REPORT OF PROCEEDINGS
ANNUAL MEETING OE THE SOCIETY,
HELD AT TITEIR
OFFICE, 141, BUCHANAN STREET, GLASGOW,
ON 17Tn MARCH, 1842.

IN THE CHAIR.
There was read to the meeting, by the Manager,
the annual statement of the Society's affairs, from
which it appeared that a greater number of Policies
had been issued during the year 184] than in any
former year of the Society's existence, and that the
amount of Policies which had become claims was
about two-fifths of the calculated amount, according
to the tables from which the premiums are deduced.
The statement having been read.
The Chairman congratulated the meeting on the
satisfactoiy state of the Society's affairs which had
just been read. He was glad to observe the steady
progress which it was making, and, above all, we
had reason to be thankful for the unusually small
proportion of the Policies which had become claims
during the past year. He had a high opinion of the
importance of life assurance. They all knew how
