GLASGOW MATERNITY OR LYING-IN
HOSPITAL.
Corner of North Portland Street and Rottenrow.
The objects of this institution are — (1) To attend
go women in the hospital, and also at their own
homes during their confinement, and (2) to provide
t training school in practical obstetrics for medical
itudents, ladies' nurses, and midwives. The hospital
"Was rebuilt in 1880, and is as complete as possible
■l|both as regards construction and sanitary arrange-
Iknents. Patients in labour are admitted at once on
■application at the hospital without any recommenda-
mion. Separate wards are provided for married
tILomen, and also for others who may need special
•treatment. Women suffering from any infectious
Itdisease are not admitted. A committee of ladies
'■{ ivisit the hospital and assist the directors.
W The directors have opened a branch place of call
■at 445 St. Vincent Street. Patients are not received
l[into it, but are attended to from it at their own
ituomes.

At the end of 1896 there remained on the books
of the Infirmary 2673 cases; the number of new
cases admitted in 1897 was 17,667, making the tota)
number of cases under the care of the medical officero
during the year 20,057.
THE GLASGOW CENTRAL DISPENSARY.
The object of the dispensary is to provide free
medical and surgical advice, and, when necessary,
medicine also to the sick poor. The premises are at
78 George Street (near High Street), convenient to a
district of the city where such a charity is much
needed.

GLASGOW PUBLIC DISPENSARY.
54 Dundas Street, City.
The Glasgow Public Dispensary was established iu
1877 for the purpose of giving gratuitous medica)
advice to persons in necessitous circumstances, and is-
conducted by various medical officers each giving
advice in a special department of disease to which he-
has devoted himself. The Institution is supported
by voluntary contributions, but advice being grat-
uitous, it is expected that those of the patients whc-
are able will contribute something towards the pay-
ment of medicine supplied.
