THIS Company, formerly designed " The Aberdeen Fire and
Life Assurance Company," has been recently incorporated by Act of
Parliament under the above title, as more truly descriptive than the former local
one, and better adapted for the extension of business in England, and elsewhere
out of Scotland.
The LIFE ASSURANCE Department embraces two schemes— the one, for
Assurances of Fixed Sums on the most moderate terms that could properly be
adopted — the other, for Assurances with a right to share in Profits, at somewhat
higher rates of premium. The Participation Scheme was begun in 1840, and has
been attended with eminent success. The first Investigation was made as at
10th February, 1847, and reported on in the month of June of that year. The
Profits, then ascertained to have been realised, enabled the Directors to declare
vested Bonuses on all Policies entitled to participate, varying from 15 to 65
per cent, on the Premiums received, together with contingent Prospective
Bonuses on such of them as should become claims by death before the second
Investigation as at 10th February, 1852, which is now nearly completed.* Policies
in connection with this Scheme are generally preferred for Family provisions,
for which they are admirably adapted.
