LIFE DEFARTMEHT,
The following features peculiarly distinguish the Constitution and Practice of
this Corporation : —
The Exemption of the Assured from the liability of Partnership, by the security of a large
paid up Capital, and a Proprietary upwards of ONE THOUSAND in number.
The Guarantee afforded by the character and past success of this Company (as of all
other Scotch Life Companies of equal standing), that whilst the interests of the Policy-
holders will be protected from the dangers to which inexperience or improvidence in the
management may expose them, they will also be Secured in all the benefits of which the
system of Life Assurance is susceptible.
The Division among the assured in the Participation Class of the ENTIRE PROFITS
realized upon this Branch under deduction only of 10 per Cent, for expenses of Management.
The removal of many of the Restrictions usually imposed on the assured with respect
to Residence and Sea Risk in various parts of the World, and the adoption of a greatly re-
duced Scale of Extra Premiums for Tropical Climates, founded on the most correct obser-
vations which exist.
The allowance of a liberal surrender value when parties are unable to continue the
payment of the Premiums of their Policies.
The adoption of all and the extension of many of the privileges and facilities commonly
allowed to policy-holders in effecting and maintaining their assurances.
THE RATES
Of the Company have been calculated from the most authentic probabilities of human life,
and at almost every age, are more favourable for Assurers than those of the great majority
of Offices.
DIVISION OF PROFITS;
At the First Investigation into the Company's affairs made on the 30th April, 1846, ONE AND
A QUARTER PER CENT. PER ANNUM was added to all Policies opened on the
MUTUAL OR PARTICIPATION BRANCH prior to said dale, a Bonus equivalent as
a reversionary addition to from. Thirty-Jive to Fifty -four per Cent, upon the Premiums pay-
able by middle-aged Lives. The following Table shows the effect of the Bonus upon Policies
