MUNICIPAL INSTITUTIONS. /
11. All theinhabitantsare prohibited from weighing, or allowing
to be weighed, in their houses, or anywhere else, to the prejudice
of the public Weigh-house, any Pork, Beef, Rough Fat, Tallow,
Butter, Cheese, Wool, or any other article, liable in Weigh-house
Dues, under the penalty of 5s sterling for each transgression, to be
paid to the Tacksman or Collector of Weigh-house dues. And the
Tacksman of the Weigh-house only, but no other person, shall be
entitled to receive and lodge in the Weigh-house, for payment of
the usual dues, all such Goods and Merchandize as are not claimed
by the owners, or where they have not authorized any person in
Aberdeen to take charge of them.
12. All Rough Fat, Tallow, Butter, Cheese, and other articles
brought to the market for sale, and liable in the payment of Weigh
house dues, having paid the said dues at coming into town, the
owner thereof shall be entitled to have the same weighed gratis, by
the Tacksman of the Weigh house, providing no less quantity than
a stone be weighed at once.
13. The Tacksman or Collector of Weigh-house dues is hereby
ordered to have always a Copy of this Table at the Weigh-house
for inspection of all concerned ; and that the lieges may not be im-
posed upon, he shall be obliged, under the penalty of 20s. sterling,
also to carry about with him a copy thereof, to be produced, if re*
quired, to any person from whom he collects.

The following is a summary of the privileges of a Burgess of
Guild :—
1. He enjoys freedom of trade within burgh in the fullest manner.
2. He pays but three-fourths of the shoredues chargeable to un-
freemen.
3. He is exempt from all burgh custom on articles brought into
town for his own use.
4. He and his widow and children are entitled to the benefit of
the Guildry funds.
5. His children have a preference for admission into Gordon's
Hospital, and to certain bursaries at the Grammar School
and at Marischal College.
6. Singular successors and heirs of Burgesses (though not Bur
gesses themselves) entering to the town's fishings and free
dom lands, pay only the same entry-money as Burgesses of
Guild.
In 1840, there were paid to decayed Burgesses, and the widows
and children of Burgesses, £1297 ; besides which there were paid to
persons in decayed and indigent circumstances, chiefly widows and
children of Burgesses, £465 15s. from other funds under the ad'
ministration of the Magistrates and Council.
