POSTAL DIRECTORY.

On Week Days the Office is open for Postal business (including Postal
Orders) from 6.45 a.m. till 9 p.m. ; and for Money Order, Savings Bank, Life
Insurance, and Annuity business, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Stamps, in limited
quantities, can be had at the Telegraph counter, from 9 i).m. till 6.45 a.m.
on AVeek Days and all day on Sunday.
Between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., postage on inland letters, parcels, &c., maj
be prepaid at the Head Office in money instead of stamps, provided the
amount paid be in no case less than £1.
On Sunday the Office is open for Postal business from 12.30 p.m. till 1.
p.m. only, but the Letter-Box remains open as on other days.
For Telegraph and Telephone business there is attendance continuously
during the day and night, both on Week Days and Sundays.

Inland Rates of Postage— Letters. ^
Inland letters are those which pass between places in the United Kingdom
including the Isle of Man, the Orkney, Shetland, Scilly, and Channel Islands
The prepaid rate of postage is as follows, viz. : —
For a weight not exceeding 4 oz., - - - Id.
For each additional 2 oz., - - - - Jd.
A letter posted unpaid is chargeable on delivery with double x^ostage ; an
a letter posted insufficiently prepaid is chargeable with double the deficiency
Petitions and Addresses to the King are exempt from postage. Members <
Parliament may also receive by post Petitions and Addresses to His Majesty
and Petitions to Parliament, not exceeding 2 lbs. in weight, exemi)t froi
postage, provided such be sent without covers, or in covers open at ends.
No letter may be above 24 inches in length, 12 inches in width, or 12 inches
depth, ixnless it be sent to or from one of the Government Offices.
Books containing eighteen Id stamps and eleven |d stamps are issue^
price 2s.
Letter Cards are sold at the rate of 4 for 4id, or 9s per parcel of 96.
Embossed Envelopes bearing a penny stamp are sold at the following rates :
"A" size (4|in.by 3i^ in.), 20 for Is lOd; "Commercial "size (6^\in. by3Jin
16 for Is 5d; "Foolscap" size (9 in. by 4 in.), 20 for Is lO^d.
