States ol Amei'ica, and the places in Moi'occo where there
are British Post Office a^g-encies) is 2^d. for the first ounce
and l^d for each succeeding ounce or fraction thereof; £rom
the United Kingdom to British Possessions generally ^and to
Egypt, the United States of America, and the places in
Morocco whei-e there are British Post Office agencies, the
letter rate is Id per ounce.
A Letter posted unpaid or insufficiently prepaid for any
country to which prepayment is compulsory is returnod to
returned letter office. Letters so posted for other ooimtries
are forwarded, but are charged on delivery with double the
deficiency. Letters not directr-d by a particular route are,
as a rule, foi-warded by the fii-st mail despatched.
Eeply Coupons to most of the important Foreign Countries
and Colonies exchangeable foi' stamps of the value of 25
centimes (2M) each in anj- country participating in the
arrangement can be purchased at any Money Order Office in
this country at the price of 3d each for the purpose of pre-
paying closed replies to letters.
The Coupons can be exchanged by the addressee of such
letters at the Post Office of tlit place of destination for local
postage stamps.

Post Cards. — The prepaid rate on every Post Card for a
destination outside of the United Kingdom is Id, and eA^ery
reply 2d.
Newspapers, Books, Magazines, &c. is -|d per 2 oz. ; Com-
mercial Papers, is 2.\d for the first 10 oz. and ^d per 2 oz.
afterwards.
Limits of size and weight is 18 inches in length to most
Foreign Countries, and 2 feet in length and 1 foot in width
or depth for British Colonics nr Pussessioiis. and 41bs. in
weight for Foreign Countiies and 51b. for British Colonies.
Canadian Magazine Post subject to the special conditions,
the postage rate on Briti.sh Newspapers, Magazines, and
Trade Journals mtended for despatch to Canada by direct
Canadian Packet is now Id per lb., but the packets not
exceeding 2 oz. in weight are transmissible as heretofore for
■|d. In the case of packets weighing above lib. any fraction
of lib. is counted as a lb.
Samples and Patterns. — The prepaid rate for all places
Abroad is Id for the first 4 oz. and U\ per 2 oz thereafter.
The Sample Post is restricted to bona-fide Trade Samples of
Merchandise without saleable value. The limits of size to
British Colonies is 2 feet in length and 1 foot in width or
depth; to Foreign Countries, 12 inches in length, 8 in width,
and 4 in depth. The limit of weight for British Colonies,
